Our Non NHS Fees
GP Fees for Non-NHS Work and Travel Vaccinations
Why might a GP charge a fee?
GP practices provide many services through the NHS. However, some services requested by patients are not part of NHS-funded healthcare. When a GP is asked to complete this type of work, the practice may charge a fee.
NHS funding generally covers medical care and treatment provided as part of NHS services. It does not necessarily cover private reports, certain certificates, letters, insurance forms or other documents requested for non-NHS purposes.
Examples of work that may incur a fee
A GP practice may charge for services such as:
- Private medical reports
- Insurance medical reports and forms
- Certain medical certificates
- Letters requested for employers, schools or other organisations
- Fitness-to-work or other private assessments
- Copies or summaries of medical records where a charge is legally permitted
- Reports requested by solicitors or other third parties
- Statement of fact letters, i.e. to support housing application
Why are patients charged?
Non-NHS work takes time and may require a GP or another member of the practice team to:
- Review the patient’s medical records
- Check relevant medical information
- Complete detailed forms
- Write reports or letters
- Communicate with another organisation
- Take responsibility for the accuracy of the information provided
This work is outside the NHS services for which the practice receives its usual NHS funding. A fee may therefore be charged to cover the professional time and administrative costs involved.
How much does it cost?
There is no single fee for every type of non-NHS work. The cost can depend on the type of document, the amount of information required, and the time needed to complete it.
Patients should be told the fee before the work is completed where possible.
All prices are inclusive of VAT, if applicable.
A list of our private (non-NHS) fees is available below. Fees correct as of October 2026.
Please note: We have up to 28 working days to respond to these requests.

NHS care remains available
Being charged for a non-NHS document does not mean that the patient is being charged for ordinary NHS medical care.
For example, a GP consultation for diagnosis or treatment that is provided as NHS care is different from asking the GP to prepare a private medical report for an employer, insurer or another organisation.
