In addition to general medical consultations, we run a range of specialist clinics and services for our patients. The services we provide are listed here.

Annual Reviews

These are necessary for all patients with ongoing treatment or medication. Please remember to book these appointments, as it is not possible to send reminders.

Six-monthly reviews are carried out on patients receiving medication for blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and some other conditions. Patients who have not had a consultation in the past three years may arrange to see a practice nurse.

Equipment is provided in the surgery for patients to check their own height, weight and blood pressure. Please enquire at reception for details and please let the receptions know your results.

Asthma Clinic

Services which are available in this clinic are:

  • Screening for asthma,
  • Care and education of all asthmatic patients,
  • Lung function testing,
  • Reauthorisation of asthma medication

Child Immunisation/Baby Clinic

Dr Baker holds the Mother and Baby clinic at the Rosebird Centre on a Thursday Morning.

Your baby’s eyes, heart, hips and – for boys – testicles will be checked. They’ll also have their weight, length and head circumference measured. He will discuss your baby’s vaccinations with you; these are offered at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks and 12 months old, and before your child starts school.

He will also ask you how you’ve been feeling emotionally and physically since the birth of your baby.

At the 8 week point you will need to book an appointment with one of our nurses for your child’s first set of vaccinations. You can also book in with Mandy if your child has any missed or have any concerns with the vaccinations

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a treatment for benign and precancerous skin lesions.

Liquid nitrogen (-196°C) is sprayed from a canister onto your lesion(s) for a few seconds.

If you feel this is something you would benefit from please call and speak to a GP and you will be added to the waiting list.

Diabetic Clinic

Services available in this clinic are:

  • Screening for diabetes
  • Follow-up and care of all diabetic patients
  • Reauthorizing medication

Family Planning

This clinic is run monthly by a GP and Nurse. The clinic provides the following service:

  • Coil insertion and removal
  • Implant insertion and removal

BPAS

We also offer cervical screening, breast examinations and advice on all types of contraception available. These services do not require a specific family planning appointment. Please ask reception for more information.

Flu/Pneumonia Vaccination Clinics

These are run by our practice on seasonal months. Rapid service available for vaccination only. Recommended for all over 65s, all those with heart disease, diabetes, asthma/chest problems, kidney disease, absent spleen and all those taking high doses of steroid tablets or undergoing chemotherapy.

Joint Injection

Dr McGuigan runs a joint injection clinic once a week.

Hydrocortisone (Steroid) injections are used to treat swollen or painful joints, such as after an injury or if you have arthritis. The injections usually help relieve pain and swelling, and make movement easier. The benefits can last for several months.

You will need to make a telephone appointment in the first instance to check that this process is appropriate.

Minor Operations

The Minor operation clinic runs once a week with Dr McGuigan and one of our HCAs. The clinic provides the ability to remove:

  • Lumps and Bumps
  • Skin Lesions
  • Ingrown toe nails

NHS Health Checks

The NHS Health Check is a health check-up for adults aged 40 to 74.

It’s designed to spot early signs of :

  • Stroke,
  • Kidney disease,
  • Heart disease,
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Dementia.

An NHS Health Check helps find ways to lower this risk.

This is a free service which we offer our patients every 5 years.

We also offer over-75s NHS Health Checks which includes:

  • Blood Pressure check
  • Weight
  • Height
  • Frailty Risk Scale
  • Lifestyle questions
  • Overdue blood tests

To be eligible for an over-75s NHS Health Check you must not have seen a GP in the last two years.

Travel Vaccinations and Non-NHS Services

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you will need to make a telephone appointment with a nurse.

Before speak with the nurse please look on the Fit to travel  website which will offer you advice on countries you will be visiting.

This initial appointment must be at least 3 months before you travel. The NHS does not pay for all of the services we provide, so patients may be required to pay for some of these vaccines. Please see attached list.
